Collection: Armilla
The story of Armilla starts in 1980, when Silverio Marchetti bought 4.5 hectares of land and a ruin in the small town of Tavernelle in the southwestern part of the municipality of Montalcino. The place is located approx. 320 meters above sea level, and the climate here is influenced by the short distance to the Mediterranean and the winds that come from there.
Silverio had worked for many years at another winery in Montalcino, and he decided here, close to his retirement, to pursue an old dream of making wine himself. He built a small wine cellar and the first hectare was planted with sangiovese. They sold to start with the wine from cask, as the vineyard was not approved for Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. In 1995, the first ha came under Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, and the dream of Brunello di Montalcino under its own name could now finally be fulfilled. Everyone in the little family helped. Silverio's wife, their two daughters, Ilaria and Fiorella and later their two sons Nicola and Giacomo. Today, Giacomo runs the somewhat larger Caprili winery, but the two neighbors and cousins help each other in every imaginable way.
Unfortunately, Silverio died in 1997 and did not get to experience the house's first Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, which was 1997.
Today, it is Fiorella's son, Nicola Gianetti, who designs Armilla, and together with his parents, he has lifted this very small place into something completely unique.
Today, a beautifully elegant Rosso di Montalcino DOC is also produced on site, and wine is grown on approx. 3 ha.
Armilla has always worked organically without certification.
