Romanée-Saint-Vivant is one of the most sought-after addresses in Bourgogne, a Grand Cru in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in Côte de Nuits. The vineyard was classified as Grand Cru in 1936 and covers around 9.4 hectares, making it the largest of Vosne-Romanée's Grand Cru vineyards. It lies lowest on the slope, closest to the village, and faces east. The name comes from the medieval monastery Saint-Vivant de Vergy, which once owned the land.

The wine is made primarily from Pinot Noir, and the appellation also permits Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault. The result is exclusively red wine. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest owner here, and that is a big part of the explanation for why the bottles are among the rarest and most sought-after in all of Bourgogne. Grand Cru is the highest classification in the region and is reserved for the vineyards where soil, location and generations of experience come together in a very special way.

Stylistically, Romanée-Saint-Vivant is counted among the softest, most fragrant and elegant of Vosne-Romanée's Grand Cru. It is a wine that prioritises finesse and aromatic depth over sheer power, and for precisely that reason it rewards patience. The ageing potential typically lies at 15 to 35 years, and often it is only after a number of years in bottle that the wine reveals its most nuanced side. Many collectors therefore lay it down with the years to come in mind.
