Barone Pizzini

Franciacorta - Organic Bubbles with Precision and Terroir

Barone Pizzini is one of the most prominent producers in Franciacorta and was the first winery in the area to produce organically certified Franciacorta wines. For Barone Pizzini, organic viticulture is not a choice but the result of long-term work to express the area's terroir as precisely and honestly as possible.

The winery is located in Lombardy, near the southern shore of Lago d'Iseo, in the heart of Franciacorta.

Franciacorta and Metodo Classico

Franciacorta is known for producing Italy's most serious sparkling wines, made using the metodo classico - the same method as in Champagne.

Metodo classico is the traditional method for producing sparkling wine, where the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle. This is where the bubbles form, and where the wine over time develops structure, depth, and fine, persistent pearls through aging on the lees.

During aging, the classic aromas of bread, brioche, and nuts develop, while the wine's texture becomes more creamy and integrated. The method is time-consuming and requires great precision, but it yields sparkling wines with finesse, complexity, and aging potential.

Barone Pizzini's wines are among the most recognized in the area and can easily compete with great champagnes - both in finesse, depth, and aging potential.

Vineyards, Soil, and Grape Varieties

Barone Pizzini owns about 60 hectares of vineyards spread across several parcels in Franciacorta. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 200 and 350 meters above sea level and are cultivated exclusively organically.

The soil is complex and varied with morainic origin from the Ice Age, combined with mineral-rich deposits from ancient rivers. This gives wines with clear structure, freshness, and minerality.

The primary grape varieties used are chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot blanc, each contributing balance, depth, and elegance to the wines.

Each vineyard is treated individually, and the grapes are vinified with great respect for their origin and character.

Ecology, Energy, and Philosophy

Respect for nature is at the core of Barone Pizzini's philosophy. Organic viticulture is seen as the best tool to create grapes with life, energy, and expression - and thus wines with greater precision and authenticity.

About a third of the energy used in production comes from the winery's own solar panels, while the rest is covered by renewable energy sources. The balance between man and nature is not just an ideal but a concrete part of daily operations.

Style, Aging, and Expression

Barone Pizzini's Franciacorta wines have a remarkable ability to develop gracefully. In their youth, the wines appear fresh and lively with crisp acidity and clear fruit. With age, more complex aromas of nuts, brioche, and buttered bread develop - without losing tension and balance.

This makes the wines both versatile and suitable for enjoying at different stages of maturity.
