Single vineyard wine from Mesola Hill in Brusnengo – deep, structured, and age-worthy nebbiolo with a classic Piedmontese profile.
Cavazucchi is made using a traditional northern Piedmontese blend of nebbiolo (85%), croatina (10%), and vespolina (5%). It is a wine with concentration, complexity, and an expression that mirrors the raw volcanic soil beneath the vines.
The aroma presents notes of dark cherries, dried flowers, crushed stones, and a hint of smoke and tar. The taste is firm and rich in tannins, yet elegantly elevated by high acidity and a precise minerality that keeps the wine lively and balanced all the way to the long finish.
The Cavazucchi vineyard is southwest-facing at an altitude of 350 meters on Mesola Hill and is cultivated using the classic Guyot method. The soil consists of porphyritic sand of volcanic origin – orange in color and with a low pH – giving the wines from this area their unique structure and intense minerality. The yield is kept low, with just 35 quintals per hectare.
Vinification is traditional without temperature control, utilizing pump-overs and délestage – a method where the must is drained and poured back over the skins for gentle extraction and aeration. The malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously, after which the wine is aged for three years, including two years in large barrels and finally in cement, where it matures and settles.
Cavazucchi has enormous aging potential – over 30 years – but can also be enjoyed in its youth with the right accompaniment. It is perfect for hearty meat dishes, braised beef, or dishes with truffles and mushrooms.
