Ovello is a classic Nebbiolo with a full body, firm yet elegant tannins and a well-balanced acidity that provides both freshness and length. The firm tannins call for proteins with richness and structure, so you'll get the most pleasure from slow-roasted or braised meat, where fat and umami soften the tannins and bring out the wine's depth. The floral-spiced aromatics and ripe fruit play beautifully against mushroom dishes and mature, firm cheeses, while the acidity keeps the richer dishes fresh. Serve it with robust, concentrated preparations, where wine and food meet each other in intensity.

About the wine

The single vineyard wine Ovello 2021 stands as a pure and precise expression of the cru's character: a Nebbiolo with both finesse, structure, and a deep aromatic core.

The wine appears garnet red in the glass and opens with a broad, elegant, and floral aroma, where ripe fruit and subtle spices are finely woven together.

The taste is full-bodied and nuanced with a well-balanced acidity that provides both freshness and length. The tannins are firm yet elegant, and the wine unfolds beautifully in large glasses at 16–18 °C.

Ovello 2021 works excellently as a contemplative glass without food, where its depth and complexity can stand out clearly.

The grapes come from the single vineyard Ovello in Barbaresco, located at 220–240 meters altitude with southwest exposure. The soil consists of compact limestone and clay, giving the wines from Ovello their characteristic structure and aromatic intensity. The vines are trained using the Guyot system, modified to an arch, to ensure optimal ripening.

After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, and the must is fermented on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in large oak barrels before being allowed to mature further in the bottle in Carlo Giacosa's dark cellars until release.

A classic and deeply harmonious Ovello – with all the elegance and substance that characterizes Carlo Giacosa's style.

Vibrant, fresh nose of blood orange, dried cherry and earth notes. Plenty of structure and fruit concentration, with long, chewy acidity that's well integrated with the fruit. Firm, dusty, muscular yet ripe tannins. Balanced in a powerful style.
