Here is the wine that is at the top every year when various reviewers have to describe Brunello di Montalcino. A single vineyard wine that Giacomo Neri created when, many years ago, he bought a place in S. Angelo in Colle, where no one had ever tried wine before. Giacomo believed in this enormous rocky place with a completely unique microclimate and called the place Tenuta Nuova, NEW VINEYARD .

Since the first vintage in 1993 was presented, the status and fame of this wine has only gone one way, and that is up. It has received most awards imaginable. Some have complained about new oak, which was the case until approx. 10 years ago, when Giovanni Neri, Giacomo's eldest son, took over the field and cellar.

This has meant that today Tenuta Nuova is a wine where notes of new oak have been replaced by elegance, balance and delicious fruit. Giovanni Neri is simply a genius in the field and he will take Casanova di Neri to new heights.

After the harvest of the second and third week of September 2017, they have optically sorted whole berries spontaneously fermented for 24 days both on tini and stainless steel, after which the wine is matured for 30 months in used tonneux.

2017 was a very difficult year. In the spring, at the worst possible time, the frost came and took a lot of grapes. The summer was extremely hot, and the end of that was, among other things, that production has been 30% below normal.

Giovanni has sorted and sorted and it has been necessary to get a wine at the level he wants.

The result is a very nice wine

NB: when purchasing 6 pcs. they are delivered in the original wooden box.

"Graphite, talcum and chalk are the primary scents of remarkable beauty and rarity which describe the primary profile of this young Brunello. In the secondary matrix notes of salted caramel, chopped almonds and mixed white flowers which suggest magnolia, hawthorn and jasmine slowly emerge. Full bodied, fine grain soft tannins and a juicy, biting finale which motivates a return to the glass. Professionals in a difficult year. Better from 2023."

This is one of my all-time favorite Brunellos, and although personal tastes are fluid and may change from time to time, there is something timeless and solid about this wine. It's like a touchstone. The Casanova di Neri 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is graced with a similar interlude of elegant rose or crushed flower that we saw in the annata wine. It appears more prominently here, and with more shape and focused intensity. Make no mistake, Giacomo Neri builds wines for pleasure and sensual impact, and this wine (helped by a hot growing season and 15% alcohol) ticks all those boxes. But it also shows floral elegance and sour cherry freshness that defies our expectations of the vintage.
