The house's classic interpretation of Aglianico from the slopes around Monte Vulture in Basilicata.
The grapes come from vineyards in Venosa, Maschito, and Forenza at altitudes of 450–550 meters, where the volcanic soil and cool nights provide the wines with structure and energy.
The 2022 vintage appears precise and focused with a clear imprint of the area's dark minerality.
In the glass, the wine is deep ruby red. The aroma opens with dark cherries, plum, and a hint of violet, followed by spices and a light smoky tone. The taste is firm and structured with ripe tannins and a clear, crisp acidity that keeps the fruit in tension. There is both juiciness and bite, and the finish has the characteristic, slightly graphite-like minerality that defines Aglianico from Vulture.
It is a wine that pairs well with braised beef, lamb, game, or dishes with mushrooms and dark sauces. It can be enjoyed now with a bit of aeration but also has good aging potential.
The wine is made from 100% organically certified Aglianico from 25–40-year-old vines planted with 5,000 vines per hectare and trained in Guyot. The harvest is done manually with careful selection in the vineyard, followed by further sorting in the winery to ensure optimal phenolic ripeness.
Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at controlled temperatures below 28 degrees with approximately 10 days of maceration. The wine then ages for 6–12 months in French barriques and tonneaux (second-use barrels), where the malolactic fermentation occurs, before being blended in steel ahead of bottling. It is subsequently aged for at least 6 months in the bottle before release.
A classic and honest interpretation of Aglianico del Vulture – with structure, depth, and a distinct volcanic imprint.
