Alpine Nebbiolo with Depth, Freshness, and Character
Most people associate Nebbiolo with Piedmont, but the grape has deep roots in Aosta, where it is locally known as picotendro. It is grown around Arnad and Issogne at an altitude of 350 meters—an area characterized by steep slopes, granite-rich soil, and a unique alpine microclimate that lends the wines their cool and vibrant character.
In the glass, the wine appears light ruby red. The aroma is classic and precise, with notes of blackcurrant, black cherries, violets, and a slight balsamic tone. The taste is fresh, lean, and direct, yet rounded and elegant with spicy undertones and a long, dry finish.
It pairs excellently with meat dishes or simply good umami, such as ravioli with mushrooms or the Piedmontese classic bollito misto, which is variously cooked meats with plenty of flavorful accompaniments.
The wine has an impressive aging potential of up to 30 years but can already be enjoyed immensely.
The grapes are handpicked from late October to early November. The vineyard covers 1.5 hectares and is planted with 7500 vines per hectare in the Guyot system, with a low yield of about 5500 kg/ha. The soil is morainic with high sand content and granite in the subsoil.
After destemming, whole clusters are fermented in steel at 23 °C over 10 days with daily pump-overs. The wine is then aged in steel tanks for 12 months and rests for three months in the bottle before release.
An honest and upright interpretation of Nebbiolo with a clear imprint of its alpine origin.
