A classic and unmistakably terroir-driven wine that gathers fruit from several lieu-dits in both the northern and southern parts of the appellation. Here you get everything that has made Nuits famous: depth, structure, and a certain raw elegance.
The wine is made from 100% pinot noir and has a dark, intense fruit profile with notes of blackberry, cherry pits, dried herbs, and forest floor.
It has a fine floral touch. The taste is dense, with ripe tannins and a marked minerality that bodes well for aging.
The soil of the vineyards consists of classic clay and limestone soil and is located at an altitude of 230–250 meters – including names such as Les Chaliots, Aux Saints-Jacques, and Aux Herbues.
The total area at Jérôme Chézeaux covers only 2.8 hectares, spread over small plots with low yield and great precision in the work.
They work traditionally and with respect for the natural expression of the grape and the vineyard. Fermentation takes place with natural yeast, and the wine is subsequently aged in oak barrels, where a smaller proportion are new.
Serve ideally at 15–16 degrees alongside delightful umami dishes or with a well-aged cheese.
Nuits-Saint-Georges 2023 has both body and edge – but also a balance that makes it appealing even now. A wine that will certainly reward patience but also impresses in its youth.
