Collection: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the classic blue grape from Bourgogne, and this is precisely where it shows itself at its most accomplished. The grape ripens early and thrives best in a cool climate, where it retains its freshness. The result is light to medium-bodied red wines with low to moderate tannin and a style that cultivates elegance over concentration. In the glass you will often find notes leaning towards cherry and strawberry, where the nuance depends on the climate and degree of ripeness.

With us France is the centre of gravity, and by far the greater part of our Pinot Noir comes from Bourgogne, the grape's historic home ground. This is where you find the wines that set the standard for what the grape can do, from the light and fragrant to the more structured. If you want to taste Pinot Noir in another form, it is also a key component of Champagne, where it plays a part in the production of mousserende vin.

Beyond France you can explore Pinot Noir from Italy, where we carry wines from Lombardiet, the alpine Valle d'Aosta and Piemonte. Here the grape takes on an expression marked by the cooler, mountain-near vineyards. From Germany we carry wines from Baden, including Ihringen, where Pinot Noir is known under the name Spätburgunder. It is one of the grape's many synonyms, along with Blauburgunder and Klevner among others.

Pinot Noir is a grape that rewards curiosity. Because it reflects its place of growth so clearly, two bottles from different regions can taste surprisingly different, even though the grape is the same. That makes it an obvious place to start if you want to understand how climate and terroir shape a wine. Whether you are seeking the classic finesse from Bourgogne, the alpine freshness from northern Italy or the German Spätburgunder, you will find here a grape that prioritises elegance and balance.
