This Volnay is a classic Pinot Noir with medium body, fresh acidity and moderate tannin, where sweet red berries and a hint of spicy oak give it a straightforward, appetizing character. You get the best synergy with dishes in the same light to medium-bodied range, where meat prepared with gentle methods doesn't overpower the wine's juicy fruit. The fresh acidity and soft tannins also easily handle light richness from poultry, charcuterie and aged cheese, while the wine's old-fashioned earthy tone plays nicely with mushrooms and a touch of truffle.

About the wine
Bitouzet-Prieur has 2.21 hectares spread over Echards, Aussy and Petits Gamets, all on the same site to the southeast of the village.
The scent has a touch of spicy oak, which initially opens up to a beautiful, flowery character and sweet red berries.
The taste is rich, a product of the deep soil, with a balance of acidity, juiciness and dense red fruit.
A straightforward and appetizing Volnay.

Inside Burgundy
Rich purple, with a touch of sulphur on the nose post racking, but then a swelling, exuberant ripe dark raspberry fruit, with enough acidity to stay fresh. The fine soft ripe mouthful returns behind, along with adequate acidity.

The deep, rooty nose with stacks of sour cherries pulls you into this excellent Volnay. Wonderful concentration and silkiness. Then the delicacy in the finish comes and surprises you. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold.
