Chambolle-Musigny lies in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Bourgogne, between Morey-Saint-Denis and Vougeot, and the name is among the most highly regarded in this part of France. It is a village appellation (village AOC), established in 1936, and the village itself added "-Musigny" to its name as early as 1882. Here only red wine is made, based on Pinot Noir, and the result is wines that often appear among the most fragrant, elegant and refined in all of the Côte de Nuits.
The appellation covers both village and premier cru level. Among the most famous premier cru vineyards you will find Les Amoureuses and Les Charmes, each expressing the character of the terroir in its own way. The commune's two Grand Cru vineyards, Musigny and Bonnes-Mares, are by contrast separate appellations with names entirely of their own. Bourgogne is, if anything, the place where terroir means everything, and the difference between vineyards and parcels can be clearly sensed in the glass.
Pinot Noir from Chambolle-Musigny is typically a wine you would do well to give time. Many of the wines are built to mature for around 12 to 25 years, during which they develop complexity and depth. If you have the patience, they reward you with a fine interplay between fruit, structure and the character only time can give. With its elegance and finesse, it is a serious red wine that suits dishes with a certain weight, from tender beef and game to poultry prepared with care.
