When the Roman lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni bought the two properties Loreto and San Pio in Montalcino in 1975 and decided to plant his first vineyard, it was the beginning of the story of one of the best and best known producers of Brunello di Montalcino.

When Gabriele Mastrojanni took over the land it was virgin land. The impassable hills had never been cultivated and had only been inhabited by wild animals such as wolves, wild boars, wild game and had more the character of a hunting area than agricultural land. Mastrojanni knew right from the start that as difficult as the landscape was, it would be just as liberal when it came to quality, but also extremely sparse in terms of yield. And he was right.

Others before Mastrojanni had had the same experience with the land around Montalcino - and everyone knew that the grape of choice was undoubtedly Sangiovese Grosso - or Brunello, as they call it in Montalcino. And Mastrojanni wanted to make a good Brunello, so he planted Sangiovese Grosso in particular, and he chose to plant them in a pattern that allowed him to work comfortably with tractors, but at the same time have a sufficiently high planting density of 5,700 plants per hectare. hectares.

Right from the first vintages, the wine proved to be very interesting with its fantastic and typical elderflower aroma, and it immediately became known all over the world for its exceptional quality - a quality that Mastrojanni has maintained and refined ever since.
