Collection: Germany

Germany has truly found its way back onto the wine list, and it is not hard to see why. Here you will find wines with a rare balance of freshness, fruit and finesse, often with a lower alcohol and a clear, mineral line that makes them both easy to drink and lovely with food. At Copenhagen Wine we carry a selection that highlights precisely this style, and the majority of our German wines come from Baden in the sunny south-western part of the country.

Baden is one of Germany's warmer wine regions, and you can taste it in the wines, which tend to have a little more body and ripeness than you find further north. A particular focal point for us is Ihringen, one of Baden's warmest wine districts, known for its volcanic soils. From here come some of the country's most approachable wines, where sun-ripeness and freshness meet in the most beautiful way.

We also carry wines from Rheingau, one of the classic core areas for German white wine. Here it is especially Riesling that is at home, a grape that in Rheingau often shows itself with precise acidity, citrus and a characteristic minerality that suits a quiet evening at home just as well as a well-laid table.

Although Germany is first and foremost associated with white wine, the country is also a fine place to look for elegant red wine. Pinot Noir (known in German as Spätburgunder) thrives particularly well in Baden, where it produces light to medium-bodied red wines with fine fruit and a soft structure.

For us, German wine is about finding those who cultivate their terroir with care and let the place speak. It is provenance above all. Whether you are looking for a fresh Riesling or a quiet Spätburgunder, this is a region that rewards curiosity.
