This Riesling Auslese is light in alcohol, but has a fine off-dry sweetness carried by a high, fresh acidity and distinct minerality. The residual sweetness balances both salt and chili heat, while the acidity cuts through richness and keeps the flavor profile lively. You therefore get the best interplay with light dishes of white fish and poultry, with salty cured foods, and with spicy Asian dishes, where the sweetness and acidity meet umami, sweet, and sour. For dessert it works nicely against fresh fruit and tangy citrus cream, where the sweetness meets an equal partner.

About the wine
With an alcohol percentage of 7.5%, this wine is both light and balanced.
Really nice combination of intensity and finesse. This wine is the result of Markus Molitor's commitment to creating wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the terroir. Each bottle is an expression of the special place where the grapes are grown and the careful process followed to create this exceptional wine.

Vinous
This "three-star" Auslese was obviously rendered under the influence of noble rot, but it is the first Erdener Treppchen bottling of the present collection to exhibit what I take to be site-typical orange and tangerine, here in aromatically zesty and liqueur-like concentration.

In spite of the enormous concentration of dried yellow fruit flavors, this has a gracefulness and a great vitality that make it breathtaking. A spectacular Auslese to drink now, but it also has enormous aging potential.

The Wine Advocate
Picked early (in mid-October) with often just 10% of botrytis, the 2015 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule is very clear, fresh and concentrated on the nose, with complex slate and citrus-fruit aromas; it also has a cool precision that almost reminds me of an ice wine. Super piquant and elegant on the palate, this is a laser beam of an Auslese—so perfectly focused, intense and energetic, with so much salt and tension.
