Chianti Classico with a focus on sangiovese and place

Riecine is beautifully located in the heart of Chianti Classico, near Gaiole in Chianti. The estate has been part of the area for many centuries, but the modern Riecine took shape in 1971 when the passionate Englishman John Dunkley took over the place with his wife Palmina.

Their ambition was clear from the start: to create wines that reflected the terroir of Chianti Classico and the pure essence of sangiovese - without compromises and without unnecessary influences.

Development and ownership

In 2011, Lana Frank took over ownership of Riecine and made a significant impact on the direction of the winery. She further developed the work in the vineyards and cellar with an uncompromising focus on sustainability and organic cultivation.

Under Lana Frank's leadership, targeted investments were made in both vineyards and facilities, including modern cement tanks, which today play a central role in vinification. Riecine was certified organic and simultaneously achieved a clear position as a producer of Chianti Classico wines with depth, purity, and elegance.

Winemaker and contemporary direction

In 2015, Alessandro Campatelli joined Riecine as winemaker and director. Alessandro brought extensive experience from producers like Tenuta di Trinoro and Passopisciaro in Italy, as well as Kendall-Jackson in California.

With advice from the renowned consultant Carlo Ferrini, Alessandro has managed to combine tradition and innovation in a way that enhances both expression and precision in the wines. In 2024, Alessandro took over ownership of Riecine and continues the house's philosophy with a clear personal vision for the future.

Work in vineyard and cellar

Wine production at Riecine is characterized by meticulousness and great respect for the raw material. The grapes are handpicked, and vinification is done parcel by parcel to preserve the individual character of the grapes and vineyards.

Cement tanks are consciously used to ensure a clean and precise fermentation without affecting the wine's expression. The result is wines that balance intensity and elegance in a way that characterizes the most serious producers in Chianti Classico.

Style and expression

Riecine's Chianti Classico wines are made exclusively from sangiovese and clearly show what the grape and the area can achieve. The wines are characterized by freshness, fine tannins, and a harmonious acidity that provides both structure and length.

The style is precise and transparent - wines with finesse, energy, and a clear expression of place rather than power and extraction.
