This Chianti Classico is classic sangiovese with medium body, firm but silky-smooth tannins and a fresh, juicy acidity that makes it both structured and lively. The fresh acidity cuts through fat and helps with tomato-based sauces and olive oil, while the firm tannins need a little animal fat to grip onto, so try herbed pork, veal or mature beef dishes rather than very robust game. The dried herb and tobacco note suits rosemary, sage and grilled dishes, and the slender fruit also stands up to charcuterie and hard, aged cheese. Serve it with food of the same middleweight, so neither wine nor dish dominates.

About the wine

Riecine Chianti Classico is the essence of classic Sangiovese—elegant, pure, and true to its origins. It was first bottled 50 years ago and has since maintained its character as a poised and vibrant Chianti Classico, combining fresh fruit, structure, and aging potential.

The wine clearly smells of ripe cherries, violets, dried herbs, and a hint of tobacco. The taste is precise and balanced, with a firm yet silky tannin structure and a fresh, juicy finish, indicative of its high altitude and cool climate. This is a wine with classic nerve and finesse, which can be enjoyed young for its fruitfulness or stored for many years to achieve greater depth and complexity.

The grapes—100% Sangiovese—are handpicked from Riecine's high-altitude vineyards, where the calcareous galestro soil imparts the wines with their distinctive minerality and vibrancy. The grapes are harvested and selected by hand. Fermentation occurs with whole grapes in unglazed Nomblot concrete tanks. Maceration lasts 15-20 days. The wine is aged in used tonneaux for 11 months and then for at least 3 months in the bottle before release.
