Try it with

  • Bistecca alla Fiorentina
  • Braised beef
  • Grilled lamb chops
This Sangiovese has a fine, dynamic tannin structure, medium-bodied frame and a fresh acidity that makes it a classic companion to Italian-inspired food with a little richness. The tannins settle down against juicy beef and lamb, while the fresh acidity cuts through tomato sauce and heartiness in pasta dishes. Feel free to choose braised or grilled dishes, where the power of the food meets the wine's elegant structure without drowning it out. Aged hard cheeses and charcuterie also work well, as fat and salt soften the tannins and bring out the red fruit.

About the wine

When you enter the Gittori vineyard and look around, it is logical to think that these vines and this land can only produce excellent wine!

Gran Selezione is the result of this observation. The Sangiovese grapes from Gittori combine strength and depth of flavor thanks to tannins that are always fine and dynamic and combined with a wonderful aroma that stands out beautifully in the winery.
In 2019, after many years of managing the Gittori vineyard, Riecine became its owner and the idea of dedicating part of this parcel to a Gran Selezione took shape, thanks to a vintage that proved to be perfect in every way.

The grapes are carefully selected in both the vineyard and the winery before they are destemmed and fermented in cement. After 25 days of maceration, the wine is transferred to 500-litre oak barrels that are over four years old. Here the wine rests for 24 months before it is bottled.
Vigna Gittori then matures for a further six months in bottle before being released.

This wine is a tribute to the gifts of the Chianti land and an experience of unparalleled elegance and power. With each bottle, you open the door to the soul of the Gittori vineyard and get a taste experience that unites decades of tradition and modern finesse.

Critic reviews

95Decanter
The second vintage released as a Gran Selezione, this hails from a one-hectare parcel at the top of the estate's Gittori vineyard in Gaiole. Picked on 3 October, the 2020 is evocatively scented, offering a captivating array of cherry, dusty earth, alpine flowers and pine.

The 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Gittori from vineyards in Gaiole, is aromatic, racy and super-expressive. Crushed flowers, blood orange, white pepper and mint lend notable aromatic presence to this mid-weight, silky Gran Selezione.

Such purity and beauty to this with sliced rose, peach, citrus and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium body, with ultra fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Crunchy and refined.
