Collection: Red wine

Red wine is made from blue (dark) grapes, where the juice ferments in contact with skins and seeds. It is precisely this skin contact that gives red wine its colour, its tannins and a large part of its aroma and structure. The tannins give the wine firmness and contribute to its ageing potential, and many red wines are matured in oak barrels, which can add notes of spice, vanilla and toast.

The style ranges widely. At one end you find light, fresh red wines, at the other powerful, full-bodied and tannin-rich wines, all depending on grape, climate and winemaking. Among the most widespread red wine grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo, and they each show their own expression depending on where they are grown.

At Copenhagen Wine the weight of our selection lies on Italy. The majority of our red wines come from here, with Toscana as the focal point and Sangiovese as a recurring grape. From Piemonte and Alto Piemonte we carry wines in the more structured end, and you will also find red wine from Valle d'Aosta, Sicilien and Umbrien. If you want to see the full breadth, you can dive into our complete selection from Italien.

France is the second largest centre of gravity, not least with Bourgogne and its elegant Pinot Noir. In addition we carry red wine from Germany, among other places from Ihringen, as well as from Spain, New Zealand and the U.S.A. This makes for a broad selection, where you can find both the familiar and the more unexpected.

Red wine is typically served at slightly cool room temperature, so that fruit and tannins are allowed to come forward in balance. Whether you are looking for a light everyday red or a powerful wine with ageing potential, there is something to discover here.
