Colombera & Garella Pian di Peu Vino Rosso 2021

Single vineyard wine with precision, depth, and character – nebbiolo from Masserano in its most focused form.

Pian di Peu is a 100% nebbiolo from a single vineyard in Masserano, where the soil and microclimate provide a wine with both elegance and firmness. It is a wine with a pronounced sense of terroir and an expression that only deepens over time.

The aroma opens with dried roses, red cherries, orange peel, and a flinty minerality. On the palate, it is intense and structured with pronounced but polished tannins, fresh acidity, and an almost chalky finish. A wine that both demands and rewards patience.

The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 350 meters with a southwest-facing exposure and is cultivated using the classic Guyot method. The soil consists of porphyric sand of volcanic origin – orange in color and with low pH – which contributes to the wine’s elegant style and minerality. The yield is low, only 35 quintals per hectare.

Vinification is carried out without temperature control, with pump-overs and délastage – a method where the fermenting must is drawn off and poured back over the skins for gentle extraction and aeration. The malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously.

Pian di Peu is aged for three years, of which two years are in large barrels, before allowing it to settle in cement. It has an aging potential of over 30 years, but with air and patience, it can already be enjoyed with, for example, grilled game, lamb, or truffle dishes.
