Taste profile
About the wine
A pure and terroir-driven interpretation of aglianico from the slopes around Monte Vulture in Basilicata.
The grapes come from vineyards in Venosa, Maschito, and Forenza at an altitude of 450–550 meters, where the volcanic soil and cool nights create wines with both freshness and structure.
In the glass, the wine is deep ruby red. The aroma opens with dark cherries, plum, and a hint of violet, followed by spices and a light smoky tone.
The taste is lively and firm with ripe tannins and a clear acidity that provides energy and length. The volcanic minerality is perceived as a dark, almost graphite-like undertone that tightens the finish.
It is available now but also has enough structure to develop over the coming years.
The wine is made from 100% organically certified aglianico from 10–30-year-old vines planted with 5,000 vines per hectare and trained in guyot. Harvesting is done manually with thorough selection in the field and subsequent sorting in the cellar to ensure optimal phenolic ripeness.
After gentle destemming, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature below 28 degrees. The wine then ages for 6–12 months in used American barrels and French tonneaux, where malolactic fermentation takes place, before being assembled in steel towards bottling. It ages at least 4 months in the bottle before release.
A classic Aglianico del Vulture with juicy fruit, firm structure, and a clear imprint of the volcanic soil around Monte Vulture.
