Southern Tuscany near the Mediterranean - concentration, ripeness, and balance

Tua Rita is located in southern Tuscany, near the Mediterranean, in the area around Suvereto. The coastal location provides a warm and stable climate with high sun exposure and low risk of rain during the harvest period - ideal conditions for grapes like merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah, which require full phenolic ripeness to show their best side.

The winery was founded in 1984 when Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti bought a small estate with just two hectares of vineyards. What began as a desire for a quieter life quickly developed into a serious wine project with significant potential.

From small estate to international recognition

A decisive turning point came in 1996 when Tua Rita was combined with the estate of son-in-law Stefano Frascolla. Stefano has since taken on the daily responsibility for wine production and is largely the driving force behind the house's style, quality, and international breakthrough.

In the early years, Tua Rita sold grapes to producers like Sassicaia, but from the early 1990s, the focus shifted entirely to their own wines and cuvées.

Vineyards, grapes, and philosophy

Tua Rita works with a concentrated and well-thought-out selection of grape varieties, planted on vineyards that are optimally suited to each grape. The combination of warmth, good drainage, and mineral-rich soil produces wines with depth and intensity - without losing balance.

Work in the vineyard is characterized by low yields and great precision. The estate is run organically without certification, and the approach is practical and consistent rather than ideological.

The wines and cuvées

Tua Rita is today considered among the most influential producers in the group of wines often referred to as super Tuscans – wines created outside the classic Tuscan appellation rules and with freedom in both grape choice and composition. At Tua Rita, however, it is less about the category and more about exploiting the optimal conditions in southern Tuscany to create wines with concentration, ripeness, and balance.

The house's absolute flagship is Redigaffi, a 100% merlot, which has achieved iconic status among Italian wines. Vineyard work is extremely selective, and significantly more man-hours are spent here than on the house's other parcels. The result is a wine with depth, structure, and elegance, often compared to the greatest merlot wines from both Italy and Bordeaux.

The 2000 vintage of Redigaffi received 100 points from Robert Parker - a milestone that cemented the house's international reputation.

Giusto di Notri, first produced in 1992, is the house's signature wine based on cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc. Later followed Per Sempre, a pure syrah, and Perlato del Bosco, a sangiovese from cooler vineyards on the other side of Suvereto.

Common to the wines is concentration, clarity, and balance - wines with power, but also precision and length.
