Riecine is a classic Sangiovese with fresh acidity, a firm but silky-smooth tannin structure and a medium-bodied frame, and it points you toward dishes with moderate richness and a juicy texture. The tannins are softened by fat from red meat and aged cheese, while the fresh, juicy finish cuts through tomato sauce and herbed Tuscan dishes. Keep the intensity at a medium level, so the wine's finesse and aromas of cherry, violet and dried herbs have room to shine without being overpowered.

About the wine

Riecine Chianti Classico is the essence of classic Sangiovese—elegant, pure, and true to its origin. It was first bottled 50 years ago and has since maintained its character as a sleek and vibrant Chianti Classico, combining fresh fruit, structure, and aging potential.

The wine distinctly smells of ripe cherries, violets, dried herbs, and a hint of tobacco. The taste is precise and balanced with a firm yet silky tannin structure and a fresh, juicy finish, indicative of its high altitude and cool climate. It is a wine with classic vigor and finesse, which can be enjoyed young for its fruitiness and stored for many years to gain greater depth and complexity.

The grapes—100% Sangiovese—are handpicked from Riecine's high-altitude vineyards, where the calcareous galestro soil imparts a special minerality and elasticity to the wines. The grapes are harvested and selected by hand. Fermentation takes place with whole grapes in unglazed concrete tanks from Nomblot. Maceration lasts 15-20 days. The wine ages in used tonneaux for 11 months and then undergoes at least 3 months of bottle aging before release.

Critic reviews

92Falstaff
Bright ruby red with purple reflections, delicate brightening on the rim. On the nose, fresh fruit, notes of cherries and raspberries, background hints of orange zest. Elegant and lively on the palate, with a harmonious tannin structure, lively acidity and a juicy, persistent finish.
94Decanter
Precise aromas of berry fruits and a reactive palate with fine-meshed tannins, full of energy.

The 2023 Chianti Classico is terrific. Aromatic, light on its feet and super-expressive, the 2023 is a total delight.
