This dessert wine has a concentrated sweetness and a lovely freshness that keeps it in perfect balance. You can therefore serve it with all sorts of desserts - both those with fruit and with richness. It also handles salt and mould, where the sweetness meets the strength of ripe cheeses, but it works just as well entirely on its own as a conclusion to the meal - perhaps with a little chocolate, nuts or petit fours.

About the wine

Botrys Moscadello di Montalcino 2019 is Mastrojanni's sweet dessert wine - and one of those wines that almost always evokes enthusiasm when it comes into the glass. Intense, concentrated, and seductive, yet with the freshness and balance that ensures the sweetness never becomes heavy.

The wine is made from moscato, malvasia di Candia, and sauvignon blanc and is produced only in very small quantities.

In the glass, Botrys presents with a deep and clear golden color. The aroma is beautiful and aromatic with notes of muscat, ripe apricot, and honey. The taste is full-bodied and concentrated with candied peach, apricot, and fig, and a long, sweet finish. Despite the concentration, the wine has a lovely freshness that provides balance and makes it incredibly easy to love.

2019 began with a very cold and dry winter followed by a cool spring with ample rain in May, which delayed budding. The summer was warm without extreme temperatures, and after rain in early September, the grapes could continue to ripen towards a late and more traditional harvest.

The grapes are hand-harvested from October 15 from a south-facing vineyard at an altitude of 360 meters with sandy clay soil and lake-origin conglomerates. Some of the grapes are destemmed, while the rest are gently pressed in a vertical press. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks.

The wine is aged for 24 months in barriques and tonneaux and then a minimum of 12 months in the bottle in Mastrojanni's cellar.

Best served in white wine glasses at 12–14 degrees. It is fantastic with desserts, mature cheeses, or simply on its own after dinner.

Long lifespan - only gets better with patience!

Bottled in 375 ml bottles.
