This powerful yet elegant Tuscan has well-integrated tannins and a fresh acidity that make it ideal for dishes with richness and a grilled character. The tannins bind to the succulent fat in red meat and mature cheeses, while the acidity cuts through and keeps the flavor lively. The ripe dark fruit and the spicy cedar notes from the barrel also suit grilled lamb chops. So feel free to choose something with a bit of a seared crust or umami that plays up against the wine's depth and structure.

About the wine

Mastrojannis interpretation of a modern Tuscan red wine, where cabernet sauvignon meets sangiovese in a wine with both depth, ripe fruit, and freshness.

The color is intense ruby red, and the nose offers ripe dark cherries, plum, and blackcurrant with spicy notes and a hint of cedar from barrel aging.

The taste is full-bodied and concentrated with ripe dark fruit, well-integrated tannins, and a fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively and provides balance to the ripe fruit. A powerful yet elegant wine with good length.

2022 began with a cool and dry winter followed by a more rainy spring, which ensured even growth in the vineyards. The summer was warm and dry, but rain in mid-August was important for the further ripening of the grapes. Cool and sunny days in September allowed the grapes to fully ripen and develop great aromatic and phenolic intensity - (meaning both concentration in aromas as well as ripe tannins, color, and structure).

The grapes come from vineyards at an altitude of 279 meters with southeast exposure. Sangiovese was hand-harvested at the beginning of September, while cabernet sauvignon was harvested on September 24. After selection, the grapes ferment and macerate with the skins for 20 days in cement tanks.

The two grape varieties are aged separately: cabernet sauvignon matures for 18 months in French tonneaux and smaller barrels, while sangiovese is aged in cement. The wine is given a minimum of 3 months in the bottle before release.

The result is an intense and harmonious Toscana IGT, where the structure and dark fruit of cabernet sauvignon meet the freshness and Tuscan character of sangiovese.
