Vigna Loreto is a powerful and complex Brunello with ripe yet pronounced tannins, a full body, and 14.5% alcohol, so it will want the company of dishes with comparable weight and plenty of fat. The tannins are softened by rich, fatty proteins such as tender beef and long-braised dishes, while the wine's spicy notes of tobacco and spices play nicely alongside herb-seasoned grilled and roasted meat. Serve it at 17-18 degrees, so the potent tannins feel at their most silky-soft, and steer clear of lean fish dishes, where the tannins easily take on a metallic edge. An aged hard cheese rounds off the experience elegantly.

About the wine

Vigna Loreta is an elegant and complex Brunello di Montalcino - named after one of Mastrojanni's two properties in Montalcino.

The color is intense, deep ruby red.

The scent is appealing with spices and notes of fresh tobacco.

The taste is potent from the start with ripe tannins. It ends with a long and powerful, but silky and elegant aftertaste.

Aged for 36 months in Allier oak casks followed by six to eight months in bottle in Mastrojanni's cellar.

Drink from large glasses - and preferably in good company.

Brunello di Montalcino from the 2018 vintage has already garnered great praise from wine connoisseurs. In particular, the complexity, depth and ability to mature in the bottle have been highlighted. This vintage is likely to be a favorite among wine lovers for many years to come.

A wine that will have a very long life.

Brunello do Montalcino 2018 - 'Best in show', 97 point Warm, welcoming scents around a core of ripe plum. The palate is deep, with the plum transmuting into the mellower but less precise fruits of maturity; tannins prominent but well- rounded, and the acidity more buoyant than you might expect from the aromas. Excellent Brunello.
