This Brunello is a full-bodied, structured Sangiovese with pronounced tannins, high acidity and a generous, long finish. The powerful, almost rugged opening calls for rich, hearty proteins, where the tannins are softened by the fat and turn to velvet. The acidity and the red-fruit and balsamic notes hold up well against tomato, umami and mature, aged cheeses, and the wine's robust body matches dishes from the grill, the oven and long braising. Enjoy it with good friends' cooking, where there's time for both the food and the last glass.

Vigna Schiena d'Asino is Mastrojanni's top wine.
Schiena d'Asino has a characteristic dense, clear red color.
The nose features tones of red fruits and balsamic.
The taste starts strong and almost harsh, ending with a generous elegant long aftertaste. It can be enjoyed with lovely dishes, but is also excellent on its own.
A wine that should be enjoyed in the company of good friends.
It is a single vineyard Brunello di Montalcino, aged for a full 42 months in Allier oak barrels and then 12 months in bottle in the cellar at Mastrojanni.

The Wine Advocate
This is Mastrojanni's top-shelf wine with the black wax seal affixed to the front of the bottle. The 2019 vintage delivers robust aromas with black and purple fruits. You also get spice and char from longer cellar aging. It closes with gritty flavors of espresso or Turkish coffee over a generous, full-bodied mouthfeel.

Entrancing notes of plush blueberry, black cherry and cassis glide across the charred oak backbone and congregate over the firm, fine structure. Beautifully tiered tannins and visceral acidity meld into the embracing white pepper finish.

Bright fruit on the nose, showing raspberries, fresh peach peel and citrus notes such as orange zest along with violets and earthy minerality. Full-bodied, this has mouth-coating, superflavored concentration, crisp acidity and velvety tannins soaked in oranges.
