Vigna Loreta is an elegant and complex Brunello di Montalcino - named after one of Mastrojanni's two estates in Montalcino.
Vigna Loreto is the single vineyard where Mastrojanni year after year creates one of their most elegant and complex interpretations of brunello. In the 2020 vintage, sangiovese shows itself from its finest side – intense yet precise, with a remarkable balance between power and finesse.
The color is intense, deep ruby red.
The aroma is appealing with dark cherries, spices, and notes of fresh tobacco.
The taste is intense, yet uplifted by a beautiful acidity and silky tannins. It carries the ripe fruit with ease, and the aftertaste lingers beautifully.
Harvested manually from September 14. Fermented in large wooden vats with 25 days of skin contact to extract maximum complexity.
Aged for 36 months in Allier oak barrels followed by six months in the bottle in Mastrojanni's cellar.
Best enjoyed in large glasses - and preferably in good company.
It is a wine that already delivers great brunello enjoyment, but will undoubtedly evolve beautifully over the next decade or more.
The first vintage was 2007, and only a limited number of bottles are produced each year.
The grapes come from the Vigna Loreto vineyard, which is located at an altitude of 350 meters with a southeast exposure. The soil is of lacustrine origin, composed of layers of clay, sandstone, and small conglomerates (a type of sedimentary rock, a sort of natural cement), where larger rock pieces have been cemented together over time by pressure and minerals – a terroir that gives structure and depth to the wine, but also manages to maintain freshness.
2020 was a dry and warm vintage without extreme temperatures. Larger temperature fluctuations in August provided the grapes with ideal conditions for slow and harmonious ripening.
