Mineral Precision from the Alps – Petite Arvine with Nerve and Character
Petite arvine is a traditional grape in Valle d’Aosta and one of the clearest expressions of the region’s alpine uniqueness. At Les Crêtes, since 1992, there has been a focused effort on this late ripener, which delivers intense and characterful white wines.
100% petite arvine, hand-harvested in mid-October from steep vineyards at altitudes of 500-750 meters, where the grape thrives in the cool and dry climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night.
In the glass, the wine is clear and light yellow. The aroma is aromatic with floral notes of jasmine accompanied by green apples, plum, and citrus.
The taste is balanced and smooth, but with a marked salty minerality that provides length and freshness. The expression is precise and pure – it’s mountain wine with a high pulse and clear terroir.
This is a wine that works excellently with fish and light pasta dishes – try it with tuna tartare, steamed salmon, or pasta with pesto. It is also an ideal aperitif along with some salted almonds.
The vineyards are situated on west and south-facing slopes with moraine-rich, light, and sandy soil, providing an airy and well-drained growth environment. The vines are cultivated with Guyot training and a high planting density of 7,500 vines per hectare, which contributes to the concentrated fruit.
After gentle pressing of whole clusters and fermentation at low temperature in steel, the wine is aged for two months on the lees, adding roundness and structure without removing the wine’s stringent expression.
