Latricières-Chambertin is a Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, located in the Côte de Nuits in the heart of Bourgogne. It sits just above the Mazoyères climat, which belongs to the neighbouring Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin, and it is precisely this interplay of slope, soil and position that gives the wine its particular sense of place. As so often in this part of Bourgogne, it is less about regulations and more about terroir.
Only red wine is produced here. It rests first and foremost on Pinot Noir, but the rules also permit a measure of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault, which traditionally may be included in the red wines of Bourgogne. In practice it is Pinot Noir that shapes the expression and carries the finesse and depth one associates with a Grand Cru from the Côte de Nuits.
One of the things that characterises Latricières-Chambertin is its ageing potential. A well-made bottle can typically develop over 10 to 20 years, during which the young, firm notes gradually unfold and become more nuanced and complex. That makes the wine an obvious choice if you would like to set a few bottles aside and follow them over time, but it can of course also be enjoyed in its youth.
At Copenhagen Wine we carry Latricières-Chambertin from Bourgogne in France, which is the natural and only home of this appellation.
