Collection: Langhe Pinot Nero DOC

Langhe Pinot Nero DOC is Piemonte's take on Pinot Nero, the grape you otherwise know as Pinot Noir. The appellation lies in the Langhe hills in the province of Cuneo, right in the middle of the area most people associate with Nebbiolo. That is precisely why it is interesting to encounter Pinot Nero here: it offers a different and lighter expression in a distinctly Piemontese context.

Langhe DOC is a broad regional appellation covering a large area in the Langhe hills, and it makes room for both varietal and international grapes outside the DOCGs of the native grapes. Pinot Nero is regarded as an international variety in Piemonte, and under the Langhe designation it is allowed to stand on its own. Unlike Langhe Nebbiolo and Langhe Dolcetto, it is thus the grape variety that defines this particular wine.

As a varietal wine, Langhe Pinot Nero must be made from at least 85% Pinot Nero, while up to 15% may come from other permitted red grapes. This gives the houses a certain freedom while still allowing the grape's character to take centre stage. The origin is firmly anchored geographically, so every bottle here comes from the single delimited Langhe designation in Piemonte.

At Copenhagen Wine we carry Langhe Pinot Nero as a well-chosen selection from an area we hold dear. It is an obvious occasion to experience a lesser-known side of a region you perhaps thought you already knew.
