Veneto in northeastern Italy is the country's largest wine region by volume, surpassing both Puglia and Sicily. The area stretches across the provinces of Verona, Venezia, Treviso and Vicenza, and the geography spans widely: from alpine foothills in the north to the Adriatic plains in the east. It is precisely this interplay between cool alpine winds from the north and warmer air currents from the Adriatic Sea to the southeast that gives the region its characteristic range. The Adige river and the Monte Lessini mountain range are central geographical features, and Verona, beautifully situated on the Adige, is not only one of the region's most important production centres, but Europe's most productive wine province.
Veneto contains twenty-three DOC zones, and among them Soave is the largest by volume and accounts for around 30 percent of the classified production. The region is characterised by a clear division between large industrial producers and smaller artisanal winegrowers, and it is especially the latter we like to highlight. Although the total production volume has grown over the years, the share classified as DOC(G) has fallen relative to the overall quantity, which makes it all the more interesting to seek out the wines that carry the region's identity with pride.
At Copenhagen Wine, Veneto forms a natural part of our Italian-rooted range, and the majority of our selection from here reflects precisely this diversity. Venice leaves its mark on the region's style and market identity, and you will find wines that embrace everything from the elegant to the more full-bodied. We place emphasis on provenance and on the producers who cultivate the character of the place rather than mass production.
If you want to explore more broadly, you can delve into the rest of our Italian wines, where Veneto stands in the company of the country's other regions. Whether you are looking for an everyday wine or something for a special occasion, Veneto is a good place to begin the journey through northern Italian wine culture.
