Collection: Montello e Colli Asolani DOC

Montello e Colli Asolani DOC, later renamed Asolo Montello, is an appellation around the Montello ridge and the Asolo hills in the province of Treviso in Veneto in north-eastern Italy. It lies just south of the well-known Prosecco areas around Conegliano and Valdobbiadene and was established as a DOC in 1977. This is an area where origin and craftsmanship go hand in hand, and where this particular demarcated appellation gives the wines a clear sense of place.

Both still red wines and white wines are made here. On the red side the tradition is Bordeaux-inspired, and it is worth knowing that the region was among the early ones to work with Bordeaux blends in Italy. The wines are typically built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the area's finest reds have their own designation in Montello Rosso DOCG.

The white wines show another side of the place. They are made from, among others, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Bianchetta Trevigiana, but the appellation is especially known as the home of the crossing grape Manzoni Bianco (Incrocio Manzoni), which gives aromatic and fresh white wines with character. It is a grape you do not come across in many other places, and one that makes the region all the more interesting to explore.

A small note for the geographically curious: Montello and Asolo should not be confused with Colli Euganei down in the province of Padova. They are two different areas, even though both lie in Veneto.

If you are looking for a wine from here, it can help to consider whether you are after a structured red wine for food or a fresh white wine for the brighter moments. If you want to dive deeper into the red styles, you can also have a look at our selection of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Whatever you choose, you get a wine shaped by the hills of Treviso and by a wine culture with deep roots.
