Colombera & Garella Pian di Peu Vino Rosso 2022

Single vineyard wine with precision, depth, and character.

Pian di Peu is a 100% Nebbiolo from a single vineyard in Masserano, where the soil and microclimate grant a wine with both elegance and firmness. It is a wine with a clear sense of terroir and an expression that only deepens with time.

The aroma opens with dried roses, red cherries, orange peel, and a flinty minerality. The taste is intense and structured with prominent yet polished tannins, fresh acidity, and an almost chalky sensation on the finish.

The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 350 meters with southwest exposure and is cultivated using the classic Guyot system. The soil consists of porphyritic sand of volcanic origin. Orange in color and with low pH, contributing to the wine's slender style and minerality. The yield is low, only 35 quintals per hectare.

Vinification occurs without temperature control, using pumpovers and délestage - a method where the fermenting must is drained and poured back over the skins for gentle extraction and aeration. The malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously.

Pian di Peu is aged for three years, two of which in large barrels, before being allowed to settle in cement.

It has an aging potential of over 30 years, but with air and patience, it can already be enjoyed now, for instance, with grilled game, lamb, or truffle dishes.
