This single-vineyard sangiovese is lively and medium-bodied with fresh cherries, pomegranate, dried flowers and a chalky, mineral bite. Its moderate tannins and good freshness mean you can serve it lightly chilled with dishes that have a little richness and salty umami, where the tannins get something to play against without turning dry. Aim for medium-bodied meat and pasta dishes as well as charcuterie and mature cheeses, so wine and food meet each other in intensity. Avoid very fatty fish and egg-creamy dishes, which can give the tannins a metallic or grainy impression.

About the wine

Top wine from Bakkanali - Single vineyard Sangiovese with high energy and terroir expression.

Sangiovese from a small single vineyard, right in front of the cellar at Poggioferro on Monte Amiata at 600 meters altitude, planted, tended, and nurtured by the former owner, Fiorenzo.

A lively and characterful wine with wild cherries, pomegranate, dried flowers, and a chalky, mineral bite.

Enjoy it slightly chilled - now or over the next 5-7 years.

The vineyard is only 0.6 ha and is located on iron-rich marl with chalk and carbonate - a terroir that provides structure, acidity, and character. The vines are 20 years old and are organically farmed following biodynamic principles.

Fermentation occurs with whole clusters and natural yeast in a semi-carbonic style over two weeks, followed by manual pressing and a few days of infusion before aging in wooden barrels.
