This Volnay is an elegant, medium-bodied Pinot Noir with dense, stony tannins, a hint of oak and a clear, fresh acidity. It would prefer dishes in the same light to medium-heavy weight class, where moderate richness and protein soften the firm tannins, while the acidity cuts through the fat and keeps the palate fresh. Choose finer poultry, veal and mild game dishes as well as aged sheep's- and cow's-milk cheeses, where nutty complexity meets the wine's mineral, earthy finish. Patience is rewarded, and the food should not be more powerful than the wine.

About the wine
This is probably the most complex and aging-worthy wine in the cellar.
It's very tight in its youth, with small floral notes popping through a muted nose before some stony minerals.
The palate is structured with tightly packed, stony tannins with a hint of oak and some tasty red fruits.
It takes time to open up, but will reward patience.

The deep, rooty nose with stacks of sour cherries pulls you into this excellent Volnay. Wonderful concentration and silkiness. Then the delicacy in the finish comes and surprises you. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold.
