Grifalco Damaschito Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG 2021

Single vineyard wine from Maschito at an altitude of 580 meters on the slopes of Monte Vulture. Here, the soil is distinctly red and rich in iron and manganese – a clear imprint of the volcanic subsoil, which gives the wines both depth and structure.

The 60–70-year-old vines are densely planted with 8,000 plants per hectare, resulting in a naturally low yield. The sandy and mineral-rich soil contributes to the wine's concentration and its characteristic dark minerality.

In the glass, the wine appears deep and intense ruby red. The aroma offers black cherries, dark plums, and dried herbs, followed by tobacco, spices, and a slight iron tone.

The taste is full-bodied and structured with ripe, but prominent tannins and a firm core of dark fruit. The acidity is clear and provides length and balance, while the finish is persistent and mineral.

This is a wine for dishes with depth and power – braised beef, game, lamb, or slow-cooked dishes with concentrated sauce. It benefits from a bit of aeration in its youth and has significant aging potential.

The wine is made from 100% organically certified Aglianico from old vines trellised in guyot. Harvesting is done manually with strict selection in the field and further sorting in the cellar to ensure optimal phenolic ripeness.

After gentle destemming, the must ferments in 5,500-liter Slavonian oak vats at temperatures below 28 degrees. The maceration lasts more than 60 days, during which malolactic fermentation also occurs. The wine then ages for 12–18 months in Slavonian oak and a minimum of 12 months in bottle before release.
