With its medium-bodied frame, moderate and ripe tannins, and lively acidity, this is a sangiovese that thrives in the company of richness and umami without being drowned out. The fresh acidity cuts through fatty charcuterie and rich pâtés, while the earthy notes of rosemary and leather play up to classic Tuscan meat dishes. Stick to medium-intensity dishes, where fruit and structure are allowed to balance each other rather than compete. Feel free to serve the wine at 16-17 degrees, so the tannins feel soft and welcoming.

About the wine

This vintage of Il Molino di Grace's top wine is the first to use a new position and field for the wine.

It has always been produced on a very old and high-lying field in Greve, but the output was simply so low and it became so difficult that a new project was started a few years ago.

The finest clones for this wine were planted in the absolute best positions around the cellar.

The wine is clean, clear, precise and extremely elegant. A new era for this great wine.

12 months in barrique and tonneaux (225 liters and 500 liters).

The wine is sangiovese, but as a tribute to the old field, there is a very small proportion (less than 5%) of canaiolo and and colorino.

The wine could easily be called Chianti Classico DOCG, but it has always been called Gratius IGT, and it will continue to be so.

The wine is certified biodynamic.

A blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino, the Il Molino di Grace 2016 Gratius (made with organic fruit) is a rich and deeply concentrated blend that relies on ripe fruit from a classic vintage and generous oak aging to form both the intensity of the bouquet and the depth of the mouthfeel. After 12 months in new French oak and tonneaux, the dark cherry and blackcurrant notes yield to spice, toast and tar. This is a no-brainer steak wine.
