Maugeri Etna Bianco Superiore Contrada Volpare DOC 2025

The cool and mineral side of Milo.

100% carricante from Contrada Volpare in Milo on the eastern slope of Etna. With this vintage, Maugeri places even greater emphasis on the individual contradas in Milo, and here it is Volpare's cool, slender, and mineral expression that takes center stage.

The vines stand at about 700 meters altitude on small terraces surrounded by old lava stone walls. The soil is sandy and volcanic, rich in minerals. The combination of altitude, the cool microclimate, and the volcanic soil gives carricante a distinct freshness and vibrancy. Volpare especially showcases the tight, salty, and mineral side of Milo.

The aroma is fresh and elegant with citrus, yellow fruit, white flowers, and aromatic herbs along with fine volcanic nuances.

The taste has great fullness and a creamy, almost silky texture, but is kept slender by carricante's lively acidity. Citrus and fine fruit are followed by herbs, minerality, and a hint of almond, before the wine finishes long, precise, and with the characteristic saltiness.

The grapes are harvested manually at the beginning of October and undergo a short cryomaceration before gentle pressing. The must is clarified at low temperature, after which 90% is fermented in steel tanks and 10% in 500-liter French tonneaux. The wine is then aged for eight months on the fine lees.

A classic and very pure interpretation of carricante from Milo, where Volpare especially shines through freshness, volcanic minerality, slender acidity, and a long, salty finish.
