Collection: Etna Bianco DOC

Etna Bianco has one of the most precise addresses a white wine can have: the volcanic slopes of Etna in the province of Catania in eastern Sicily. The production zone spans parts of around 20 communes around the volcanic massif, and it is the interplay between altitude, dark volcanic soil and the local grapes that gives the wines their unmistakable character. It is an appellation where the place speaks clearly through the glass.

In terms of grapes, Carricante is the heart of it all. Etna Bianco must contain at least 60% Carricante, while Catarratto is permitted at up to 40% along with smaller amounts of other authorised local varieties. Carricante is the grape that defines the style: it produces white wines with high acidity and a pronounced minerality, and it is precisely this backbone that allows the more ambitious examples to develop nicely with a few years in the bottle.

If you want even more Carricante in your glass, there is the Etna Bianco Superiore category. Here at least 80% Carricante is required, and the grapes must come from the commune of Milo on the eastern slopes. It is a small, tightly defined area, and the designation Superiore thus points to a more focused interpretation of the same grape-based starting point.

Stylistically, Etna Bianco is for you who love fresh, crisp white wines with a salty, mineral edge rather than sweetness and weight. The high acidity makes the wines well suited at the table, where they pair with fish and shellfish, lighter dishes and much of Sicilian cuisine. Our selection is limited in scope, but comes from one of Italy's most distinctive wine areas, where the volcano leaves its mark on every single bottle.

If you want to explore further, you can dive into all of Sicily or browse our wider selection from Italy. But if you are looking for a white wine with clear provenance and a fresh, volcanic profile, Etna Bianco is an obvious place to begin.
