Passorosso is a bright, elegant Etna red wine with a fine mineral streak, red berries and a built-in smoky note, but only moderate, soft tannins and lively acidity. It calls for dishes where the flavor is intense without being overwhelming in richness, so the wine's finesse isn't run over. Grilled and lightly gamey meat plays up against the volcanic smoky tone, while mushrooms and Sicilian cuisine capture the wine's earthy minerality. At the same time, the fresh acidity makes it good with charcuterie and firm cheeses, where it cuts through fat and salt.

About the wine
Passorosso is Andrea Franchetti’s vivid portrait of Etna, created from 70-100-year-old nerello mascalese vines in contrade such as Malpasso, Guardiola, and Santo Spirito.
The vineyards are located between 550 and 1,000 meters in altitude, on soils of both gravelly, younger lava and deeper, oxidized volcanic soil.
The wine is light, clean, and unfiltered with red berries, dried herbs, and a pronounced minerality.
It ages in large, neutral barrels and develops notes of camphor, sandalwood, and warm spices with age.
Classified as Etna Rosso DOC since 2014 – a wine that brings together altitude, soil, and Franchetti’s uncompromising style into one clear expression.
