Collection: Giuseppe Mascarello
Mauro Mascarello is the last great name from a famous Barolo generation that also included Giovanni Conterno and Bartolo Mascarello. He has been winemaker at the Giuseppe Mascarello estate since the 1960s, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Mauro is known for his traditional approach with long fermentations and aging in old botti casks.
One of Mauro's significant changes was to create a single Barolo from the Monprivato vineyard in 1970, a practice different from his family's previous method of blending grapes from different fields. Recognized since the 17th century and among the top ten Barolo vineyards, Monprivato is renowned for its exceptional quality and unique terroir on a southwest-facing slope in Castiglione Falletto.
In the 1980s, Mauro acquired all of Monprivato, making it one of the few Barolo vineyards fully owned by one producer. In addition to Barolo Monprivato and Cà d'Morissio, a super-riserva Barolo, Mauro also produces excellent Barolos from Santo Stefano di Perno and Villero, as well as Dolcettos and Barberas. Cà d'Morissio, made from a special Nebbiolo clone, stands today as one of the finest traditionally made Barolos.
