Irpinia Coda di Volpe DOC is a type of white wine you find inland in Campania, more precisely in the province of Avellino. Here the local grape Coda di Volpe plays the leading role, and for a wine to carry this designation, it must consist of at least 85% Coda di Volpe. The remaining up to 15% may be made up of other non-aromatic grapes of the same colour suited to cultivation in the area. Coda di Volpe is therefore the wine’s main grape.
The appellation itself is firmly anchored geographically. Irpinia DOC was established by ministerial decree in 2005 and subsequently adjusted, and it covers several wine styles, including varietal wines, sparkling wine (spumante) and passito. The Coda di Volpe type is one of these varietal white wines. The production area covers the suitable vineyards throughout the administrative territory of the province of Avellino, so when you choose a bottle from here, you know exactly where it comes from.
The landscape helps shape the wines. The vineyards must lie well exposed on hilly terrain or at the foot of hills up to 600 metres in altitude, within the area defined by the appellation rules.
