Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT takes you up into the mountains of northern Italy, where the vineyards lie in the shadow of the Dolomites. The designation is unusual because it deliberately crosses a regional boundary: it spans three provinces in two regions, namely Trento in Trentino, Bolzano in Alto Adige and Belluno in Veneto. Most of it comes from Trentino-Alto Adige, and the whole area is tied together by the same alpine landscape rather than by administrative lines on the map.

IGT sits at the freer level below DOC and DOCG, and that allows for a broad scope. Both white wine, red wine and rosé are made here, and a wide range of grapes is permitted. You will find local classics such as Teroldego and Schiava side by side with international varieties, and it is precisely this freedom that makes the designation so versatile to explore.

It is the alpine location that ties the style together. The large swings between day and night temperatures give a slow, even ripening in a cool climate, and that is often what you taste: a wine with freshness, clarity and a fine balance between fruit and acidity. The designation was created in 1997 and today embraces an area where Italian and German-speaking wine culture meet (in German it is known as Weinberg Dolomiten).

With us, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT is a gateway to the cool, mountainous part of the country, where the grapes get plenty of time to ripen. If you want to explore further, you can dive into the rest of our Italian selection, where the alpine style is joined by wines from the rest of Italy.
