Although the wine is listed as a white wine, the Schioppettino grape shows itself here as a light, spicy red wine with a distinct aroma of white pepper, fresh red tart fruits and a fine, elegant acidity. The light body and the moderate tannin structure mean that you should stick to dishes with finesse rather than the very heaviest ones. The fresh acidity cuts beautifully through richness and salt, while the spicy, peppery character plays up against game, charcuterie and dishes with a bit of character. Serve it with spicy, but not blazing hot dishes, and let the acidity cleanse the palate between each bite.

About the wine

Apart from the Ronc Platât brand, Tommaso also produces and bottles the GAF wines - Garagisti Anonimi Friulani. These wines are created as a "collective" with some friends with the aim of experimenting with blends and lesser-known vineyards. They are serious and quality wines that explore new flavor nuances and terroirs.

Schioppettino from Friuli – spicy elegance from Rocca Bernarda.

This Schioppettino from Friuli Colli Orientali originates from a 40-year-old vineyard at the peak of Rocca Bernarda, an area known for its excellent white wines, but which also delivers red wines with spicy finesse. Schioppettino is a local grape with distinctive aromatic expression, fully showcasing its character here.

The wine opens with an intense aroma of white pepper and spices, while the taste offers red, tart fruits balanced by a fresh and elegant acidity. The fine structure and spicy touch create a wine that is both vibrant and complex.

The grapes are grown in the classic "Ponca" soil, a composition of calcareous clay and sandstone, which gives wines with minerality and depth. The vineyards are pruned using the single guyot system, and the yield is kept low at 30 q/ha to ensure high concentration in the grapes.

The wine is produced using traditional methods with full destemming of the grapes. Fermentation takes place with 20 days of maceration to extract maximum aroma and tannin structure, and the wine is then aged for 20 months in older French oak barrels.

Only 1300 bottles produced. A wine with enough finesse to be enjoyed on its own.
