A brilliant example of Chianti Classico, this wine offers a unique combination of terroir and tradition, focusing on the elegance and complexity of the sangiovese grape.

100% sangioves from Istine's various single fields (Crus)

From 2021, 10% are whole bunches of grapes in the vinification, and this has proven to be a highly successful approach.

The scent is excellent and lively. The taste is intense and full of energy, with a fresh acidity that lifts the core of red berries and fruit.
Floral and spice notes emerge afterwards and add extra freshness. The oak is integrated very nicely and provides a harmonious balance.

It radiates a clear and vibrant energy that makes it an impressive expression of Chianti Classico.

Vinification in separate tanks for each vineyard (Vigna Istine, Vigna Casanova dell'Aia and Vigna Cavarchione).

After about a year, the quantities to be bottled for the single vineyard wines (Cruvines) are selected, then the quantities are bottled for Riserva Levigne.

Fermented for 15 days in concrete vats at a controlled temperature (max. 26°C).

Maceration on the skins for 45 days in concrete vats at a controlled temperature (max. 26°C).

The individual crus are first aged separately for 12 months in 20hl Slavonian oak casks, then, when blended, they are aged for a further 12 months in 30hl oak casks and at least 12 months in bottle.

The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Levigne is fabulous. In fact, the 2020 is one of the best Riservas I can remember tasting here. Black cherry, plum, graphite, cloves, menthol and licorice are some of the many notes that meld together in this deep, potent Riserva. In the past, I have found the Riserva a bit marked by oak, but that is not the case here. The 2020 spent two full years in cask.
