This Brunello has an elegant, transparent sangiovese style with firm but ripe tannin, high acidity and an aroma of red fruits, earth and iron. The ripe tannin and the fresh acidity cut nicely through fatty, powerful proteins and braised dishes, while the wine's 14.5% and long aging give it body enough for robust preparations like grilling and oven-roasting. Serve it slightly warmer, around 17-18 degrees, so the tannins feel soft, and steer clear of very spicy or mouth-coating dishes like eggs and chocolate, which pull the wine's earthy finesse off balance.

About the wine

The king of Italian and Tuscan wines, Brunello di Montalcino, is the perfect expression of Sangiovese.

Lupi e Sirene has finesse, depth, and elegance.

In our opinion, it is one of the best 2017 Riserva, and it already enjoys great elegance, complexity, and accessibility.

The single-vineyard wine Lupi e Sirene is, like many places on Etna, planted according to the old Albarello system, i.e., as bushes.

Compared to the vineyards in Galampio, there is a lot of granite in the subsoil.

It is planted with a density of 11,111 plants per hectare, which is among the highest seen in regular wine production.

The grapes are harvested in the last days of September and come from a single vineyard close to the winery in Castelnuovo dell’Abate.

The wine has fermented for 50 days in large open oak vats, after which it has aged for 42 months in large barrels in the cellar, followed by a minimum of 16 months in the bottle before release.

The wine is beautifully light in color and shows the typical transparent Sangiovese.

It has a very elegant aroma of red fruits and berries, complemented by notes of earth and iron. The wine continues to offer new layers of flavor for many minutes.

A Brunello like no other Brunello.
