Ronc Plâtat Mutilatini Merlot DOC 2022

Merlot from the hills of Friuli – depth, elegance, and history in a single glass.

Mutilatini is a distinct Merlot from Friuli Colli Orientali, where the vineyard is situated on a northwest-facing slope near the village of Buttrio. The name derives from an old villa that once housed a boarding school for children of World War I veterans.

Here, in the classic "Ponca" soils – a mix of calcareous clay and sandstone – the Merlot grape thrives and develops with a unique finesse.

The wine opens with an intense and alluring aroma of crushed wild blueberries, aromatic herbs like sage, and a subtle hint of forest floor. The taste is round and full-bodied, yet balanced by a cool acidity structure that provides a long and elegant finish.

The grapes are harvested with a low yield of about 30 q/ha and traditionally vinified with full destemming.

The must undergoes approximately 20 days of maceration, gently extracting color and tannins. After fermentation, the wine matures for 20 months in French barriques, 40% of which are new, adding depth and a subtle spiciness without overpowering the purity of the fruit.

With just 1300 bottles produced, this wine is a rarity. It deserves to be enjoyed in fine glasses, ideally at 16-18°C, and pairs excellently with game, grilled veal, or aged cheeses.
