Viñátigo Laderas de Teno DOP 2022

Single vineyard wine from El Palmar - a hidden valley in the Teno Massif about 650 meters above sea level on the northwest part of Tenerife. Here, the landscape opens to the north, and the trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean move over the steep volcanic slopes. The grapes for Laderas de Teno are a blend of tintilla, baboso negro, vijariego negro, and bastardo negro from old vines planted on their own roots, preserved on Tenerife thanks to the island's unique history without phylloxera.

The aroma is deep and vibrant with dark berries, dried herbs, and spices, along with the lightly smoky minerality that is so characteristic of Tenerife. The taste is both structured and fresh. Plenty of precise and juicy fruit, fine and elegant tannins, and a long exciting and energetic finish that beautifully elevates the wine's concentration. It is a wine full of personality and a perfect match for grilled meat and flavorful dishes.

The soil in the Teno Massif is among the oldest in Tenerife, dating back up to eleven million years. Here, clay and basaltic volcanic rocks meet in a landscape that gives the wines both concentration and structure while maintaining freshness. The vineyards and vines are sustainably cultivated without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides and with great respect for nature's own rhythm.

The individual grape varieties are hand-harvested throughout September and vinified separately using the grapes' own yeast cells in open, old barrels. During fermentation, gentle manual pigeage (gentle pressing of the skins during fermentation) is applied to preserve the wine's finesse and ensure a soft extraction. After fermentation is complete, the different grapes are combined, and the wine is aged for a year in French barrels. This adds extra depth and structure while allowing the wine's volcanic origin to clearly and precisely shine through in the glass.
