The 2021 vintage of Carlo Giacosa's Barbaresco Asili is yet another beautiful example of what nebbiolo can achieve on this legendary cru. The wine presents with a refined lightness and depth, where both finesse and aromatic purity stand out clearly.
The aroma is broad and floral with the characteristic sweet fruit notes that the Asili vineyard often provides.
On the palate, the wine is harmonious and elegant, with balanced acidity and silky fine tannins that fade into a long, clean, and persistent finish.
Asili 2021 is perfect for risotto, light and dark meats, as well as mature cheeses—and it is just as delightful to enjoy as a glass on its own in peace and quiet without food.
The wine can be enjoyed now for its elegance, but it will develop further complexity over the coming years.
The nebbiolo grapes come from the historic single vineyard Asili in Barbaresco, where the soil consists of calcareous clay at 250 meters altitude with perfect southwestern exposure. The vines are trained using the Guyot system, modified to an arch for optimal ripening. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, and the must ferments with skin contact in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels and finally matured in the bottle in Carlo Giacosa's dark cellars until ready for release.
An elegant, floral, and deeply classic Asili—exactly the style that Carlo Giacosa masters.
